A vCIO roadmap template that survives leadership changes

The one-page artefact we use to keep technology aligned to the business.

By franklin

Most IT roadmaps die when the sponsor leaves. Ours survive because they fit on a page and tie to revenue.

The four lanes

1. Revenue-enabling - work that lets sales close or operations scale
2. Risk-reducing - work that closes audit findings or security gaps
3. Cost-saving - work that reduces run-rate cost
4. Tech-debt - work that pays down complexity

The cadence

  • Quarterly: replan the next four quarters, re-rank items
  • Monthly: status against the current quarter
  • Weekly: deliver, demo, decide
If an item cannot be tagged with a lane and a sponsor, it does not go on the roadmap. It goes on the parking lot.
